According to the section听听of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to receive a NYS Regents Diploma a student must earn three commencement-level mathematics credits (more advanced than grade eight and must meet the commencement-level mathematics learning standards as determined by the commissioner) and achieve a passing score on one Mathematics Regents Examination or听Department Approved Alternative听mathematics examination.听

Which mathematics assessments are required by New York State?
In New York State, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires students in grades 3-8 to be scheduled to take a New York State assessment for their grade level.听These assessments take place in the spring of each school year. At the high school level, successfully passing one Regents Examination in Mathematics is a graduation requirement for earning a Regents diploma. Are students expected to supply their own calculators for classroom and assessment use?
The State Education Department requires the use of calculators for intermediate and high school level mathematics and science assessments.听To the extent that calculators are a necessary part of the educational program, the school district must provide them.
